Politically, the region is a hotspot for the Inquisition's operations. Unlike the interior provinces where the Orders maintain order through prestige, the Borderlands require active suppression of evil. This has led to a reputation where justice is swift and brutal. Many heroes and villains alike have made their names here, as the line between protecting humanity and becoming a tyrant in the name of Light blurs significantly in these harsh lands. The existence of the Borderlands dictates much of the Empire's foreign policy. Resources are funneled here to maintain fortifications and garrisons, often at the expense of internal development. This tension creates friction between the central government and local warlords who claim autonomy due to their necessity in holding back the Darkness.
